Genjirō Kaneko is a former Japanese politician born on May 8, 1944, in Ikitsuki, Nagasaki Prefecture. He served as the independent governor of Nagasaki from 1998 to 2010. Prior to that, he was a member of the House of Representatives from 1983 and served in the Senate until 2022, representing Nagasaki as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), specifically the Kishida faction. He held the position of Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in both the first and second Kishida cabinets from 2021 to 2022.
