Chetin secured a gold medal at the 1971 World Weightlifting Championship and a bronze in 1972, alongside multiple Soviet championships and records. After retiring in the late 1970s, he worked as a farmer in Uzbekistan and later excelled in powerlifting, winning gold at the 1992 European Powerlifting Championship.
