Sir Godfrey Henry Oliver Palmer, commonly known as Geoff Palmer, is a prominent professor emeritus in the School of Life Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, and a notable human rights activist. He is recognized for discovering the barley abrasion process during his research at the university. In 1998, he received the American Society of Brewing Chemists Award of Distinction for his contributions to brewing science, often regarded as the 'Nobel prize of brewing.' Palmer made history as the first black professor in Scotland and was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours.
