He served as a member of the John Brown Battery, which consisted of young Englishmen fighting for the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War. Servante was notable for being the last surviving British volunteer of the conflict until his death on April 21, 2019, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.
