Georg Meiring is a former South African military commander born on October 18, 1939, in Ladybrand. He earned an MSc in Physics from the University of the Orange Free State. Joining the South African Army in 1963, he served in various significant roles, including Deputy Chief of the Army and Chief of the Army from 1990 to 1993. He was the last Chief of the South African Defence Force from 1993 to 1994 and the first Chief of the South African National Defence Force from 1994 to 1998. Meiring contributed to military intelligence and received several honors during his career.
