George Mountford Adie was a British architect born on January 14, 1901. After starting his career as a stockbroker, he co-founded the architectural firm Adie, Button and Partners in 1933. His firm designed notable buildings including the Park Lane Hotel and the art deco apartment block at Princes Gate. Adie married pianist Helen Perkin in 1935 and had three children. After World War II, he became involved in the Gurdjieff spiritual movement, moving to Sydney, Australia, in 1965, where they established the Gurdjieff Society of Newport.
