George Emil Banks was responsible for the 1982 Wilkes-Barre shootings, a spree shooting in Pennsylvania, where he killed 13 people, including seven children, five of whom were his own. Despite an insanity defense, Banks was convicted of 12 counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. His execution was delayed due to rulings on his competency, and he was declared incompetent to be executed in May 2010. This incident is noted as the deadliest shooting in Pennsylvania's history.
