George Campbell Eickwort was an American entomologist and professor at Cornell University, specializing in Halictidae. He was celebrated for his teaching, earning a 1986 Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching from the Entomological Society of America. Eickwort obtained his BS and MS at Michigan State University and his Ph.D. at the University of Kansas. He later became a full professor and Chairman of Entomology at Cornell, teaching various aspects of insect biology. Tragically, he died in a car accident in Jamaica. The fossil halictid genus Eickwortapis honors his contributions.
