George Albert Esson (1942-2022) was a prominent Scottish police officer known for his roles as Assistant Chief Constable of Grampian Police and Chief Constable of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary from 1989 to 1994. He notably participated in inquiries surrounding significant events such as the Piper Alpha disaster, the 1986 Chinook helicopter crash, and the Lockerbie bombing. A University of Aberdeen graduate, after retiring, Esson served as a security advisor for Shell UK, particularly during the Greenpeace protests regarding the Brent Spar facility. He was honored as CBE in 1994.
