George H. Rieke, born on January 5, 1943, is a prominent American infrared astronomer known for his contributions to astronomy and planetary sciences. He served as the Deputy Director of the Steward Observatory and is a Regents Professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Rieke played a key role in the development of the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) on NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, and currently leads the science team for the Mid-Infrared Instrument on the James Webb Space Telescope.
