George Augustine Hyde (1923–2010) was an American bishop who founded the Society of Domestic Missionaries and co-established the first Christian congregation in the U.S. that openly ministered to homosexual parishioners. He served as metropolitan archbishop of the Orthodox-Catholic Church of America from 1970 to 1983. Though raised in a Southern Baptist family, Hyde advocated for inclusivity within the church, promoting the acceptance of LGBT individuals. He led a schism after opposing the ordination of women, continuing his ministry until his death.
