George Porter was a British chemist born on December 6, 1920, in Yorkshire and died on August 31, 2002. He received a scholarship to the University of Leeds, where he earned a degree in chemistry. During World War II, he served in the Royal Navy Reserve. He later pursued research at the University of Cambridge under Ronald Norrish's supervision. In 1967, he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, served as President of the Royal Society from 1985 to 1990, and was honored with several awards, including the Royal Medal and the Copley Medal.
