George Angel Rivas, Jr. (born May 6, 1970 - died February 29, 2012) was a member and leader of the notorious escape gang 'Texas Seven'. In December 2000, they escaped from a maximum-security prison, triggering one of the largest manhunts in US history. During their flight, they committed several robberies and killed police officer Aubrey Hawkins. Rivas was convicted of murder on August 29, 2001, and executed on February 29, 2012, in Huntsville, Texas. Filmmaker Werner Herzog interviewed Rivas shortly before his execution.
