George Sitts was a convicted murderer executed in South Dakota for killing special agent Tom Matthews during an attempted arrest. Sitts was the only person to die in South Dakota's electric chair. He escaped from prison after previously being sentenced for murder in Minnesota. Along with agent Matthews, he killed Sheriff Dave Malcolm. Sitts was captured in Wyoming and executed in April 1947, shortly after being sentenced to death. His final words were a wry joke referencing his escape, delivered just before his execution.
