George W. Thorn was a prominent American endocrinologist associated with Harvard Medical School and a long-time leader at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He significantly contributed to the diagnosis and treatment of Addison's disease, developed the ACTH stimulation test, and was involved in nephrology advancements, including the first successful kidney transplant in 1954 at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He also co-founded Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine. Thorn served in various roles at HHMI and received numerous awards, including the Banting Medal and the Public Welfare Medal.
