He played as an outside forward or inside forward for various teams in the Football League, including Leyton Orient, Norwich City, and Brighton & Hove Albion, having two spells with Leyton Orient. He also had a stint at Millwall but did not appear in league matches. Additionally, Waites played non-league football for Harwich & Parkeston and Gravesend & Northfleet. He passed away on August 24, 2000, in Watford, Hertfordshire, at the age of 62.
