Georgi Brankov was a Bulgarian civil engineer, scholar, and politician associated with the Bulgarian Communist Party. He graduated in 1944 in Dresden and later taught at the State Polytechnic in Sofia, becoming a leading expert in massive structures by the mid-20th century. His research focused on technical mechanics, biomechanics, and seismic mechanics, leading to over 200 scientific papers and 16 monographs. Active in politics, he served as the chairman of the State Committee for Construction and Architecture, and held leadership roles at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, becoming an academician in 1974.
