Georgy Stepanovich Gorshkov (February 15, 1921 – April 14, 1975) was a Soviet scientist and volcanologist. He specialized in the study of magmatic processes and made significant contributions to the understanding of modern volcanism in the Kuril Islands and Kamchatka. Gorshkov proposed a new classification of explosive eruptions and a method for the seismic location of magma sources. He was also the president of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior from 1971 until his passing.
