Gerald Arthur de Basto, QC, was a distinguished Hong Kong judge, barrister, and author. Born in December 1924, he co-founded Sir Oswald Cheung’s Chambers in 1965 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1968. De Basto served as a judge in the District Court starting in 1973 and later in the High Court in 1982. He held the position of chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association twice and was a co-founder of the Hong Kong Law Journal, serving as its editor-in-chief. He passed away in January 2017.
