Gerald E. H. Abraham was an English musicologist, born on March 9, 1904, in Newport and passed away on March 18, 1988, in Midhurst. A self-taught musician except for his piano lessons, he worked for the BBC from 1935 to 1947, where he rose to notable positions, including editor of the Radio Times and head of the record department. He became a music professor at the University of Liverpool from 1947 to 1962 and returned to the BBC later. Additionally, he edited volumes III and IV of The New Oxford History of Music and was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1972.
