He was a pioneer in high-precision photometry and made significant discoveries, including the first starspot and the first observation of a stellar flare. Graduating with a Master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he earned a PhD in astronomy from UC Berkeley. Kron served in WWII, contributed to radar development, and later studied stars at Lick Observatory and directed the US Naval Observatory in Flagstaff.
