Gérard Mourou is a French physicist born on June 22, 1944. He is a pioneering figure in electrical engineering and laser technology, awarded the Nobel Prize alongside Canadian Donna Strickland for their contributions to the invention of techniques that enhanced laser pulse density. In 1994, Mourou and his team at the University of Michigan discovered a method to develop the Kerr effect by reducing diffraction through ionization and disturbance of the laser beam in the atmosphere, which created filaments acting as guides for wavefronts and thus prevented distortion.
