Gerda Hedwig Lerner (née Kronstein) was an American feminist historian of Austrian origins, born on April 30, 1920, and passed away on January 2, 2013. She authored numerous scholarly publications, including poetry, short stories, plays, scripts, and biographies. Lerner was a pivotal figure in establishing women's history as an academic field. In 1963, she taught the world’s first university course on women's history at The New School, titled 'Great Women in American History.' She held academic positions at various institutions and retired as a professor of history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991.
