Gerold Walser (1917-2000) was a Swiss ancient historian and epigraphist. He began his studies in ancient history and classical philology in 1936 and earned his doctorate in 1946. During World War II, he served as a news officer in the Swiss Army. He taught at the University of Freiburg and later at the University of Bern until his retirement. His research focused on the history of the Roman Empire, including the writings of Caesar and Tacitus, Roman roads, and the history of the Hittites and Iranians. He co-edited the journal Historia and contributed to the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum.
