Gerald O. Martin, known as Gerry Martin, was an American Navy officer and radio amateur, born on May 21, 1915, in Greensburg. He gained posthumous fame for his reporting during the eruption of Mount St. Helens in May 1980. He was the first to report the eruption via radio, alongside volcanologist David A. Johnston. Sadly, he witnessed Johnston's death shortly before he himself passed away just seconds later.
