Gertrude Nadine Baniszewski (September 22, 1929 - June 16, 1990) was an American woman who oversaw and facilitated the systematic torture, mutilation, and eventual murder of Sylvia Likens, a teenager who was a ward in her home. With the help of most of her children and neighborhood kids, she was convicted of first-degree murder in 1966. The case was dubbed the 'worst crime committed in the history of Indiana.'
