Gezahegne Abera is an Ethiopian middle and long-distance runner born on April 23, 1978, in the Arsi Province of Ethiopia. He competed in the marathon event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where he was the champion. Additionally, he won the World Championship in Athletics in Edmonton 2001. Throughout his athletic career, Abera also secured victories in prestigious marathons, including the Fukuoka Marathon and the London Marathon. His niece, Tiki Gelana, is the 2012 Olympic marathon champion.
