Recognized for his research on glaucoma and the discovery of protein tyrosine phosphatase, which affects cell proliferation regulation, he has achieved distinguished accolades, including being a J. C. Bose National Fellow and obtaining the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 1996. Swarup is also a fellow of prestigious scientific academies like the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy.
