Major Gideon Gwaza Orkar was a Nigerian military officer who attempted a coup against General Ibrahim Babangida's government on April 22, 1990. Orkar and his group captured key military locations in Lagos, including the FRCN radio station and Dodan Barracks, where Babangida was present but managed to escape. In his address, he proposed the removal of five northern states from Nigeria. The coup was swiftly defeated, resulting in Orkar and 41 accomplices being tried and executed for treason.
