Michiel (Giel) Aerts was a Dutch singer, composer, and arranger, born on February 14, 1917, in Venlo and died on December 20, 1993. He became a professional musician in the mid-1930s and later led the orchestra De Notenkrakers, which became popular in southern Netherlands. Post-World War II, he composed carnival songs, including the well-known 'Vastelaovend'. Collaborating with others, he achieved success at yearly carnival song events. Aerts also taught piano and accompanied several artists in his career.
