Machiel Jan (Chiel) Salomé was a Dutch resistance fighter during World War II. Living in Ede, he assisted refugees fleeing to France from 1941 onwards. Despite being arrested while transporting a Jewish woman, he was released due to lack of evidence. Salomé became active in Limburg, coordinating with resistance groups and helping thirty people escape between December 1942 and late 1943. He was arrested in December 1943, sent to Dachau concentration camp, and survived the war. In 1964, he was honored as Righteous Among the Nations for his efforts in aiding Jewish refugees.
