Giò Stajano (1931–2011) was an influential Italian socialite, writer, journalist, actress, and painter. Before her gender transition in the 1980s, she was recognized as one of Italy's first openly gay men. Stajano is notably remembered for her night swim in the Barcaccia Fountain, an event that supposedly inspired a famous scene in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita, featuring Anita Ekberg in the iconic Trevi Fountain. Her life and work contributed to the visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals in Italy.
