He serves as a professor of Respiratory Medicine at Humanitas University in Milan, and since December 2016, he has been the Director of the Personalized Medicine Asthma & Allergy Center at Humanitas Research Hospital. He is recognized for his research on innovative treatments for allergic diseases, particularly targeting sublingual immunotherapy. Canonica has also held significant leadership roles in the World Allergy Organisation, including Secretary General and President, and is currently the vice-president of INTERASMA.
