Tragically, on October 24, 2002, during a training session, Córdoba and teammate Hernán Gaviria were struck by lightning. While Gaviria died instantly, Córdoba succumbed to his injuries three days later, on October 27, 2002. His untimely death shocked the football community and highlighted the dangers associated with outdoor training during adverse weather conditions.
