Giovanni Tommaso, born on January 20, 1941, in Lucca, Italy, is a renowned bassist, composer, arranger, and bandleader in modern jazz. He began performing in a duo with his brother and formed the 'Quartetto di Lucca', inspired by the Modern Jazz Quartet. After relocating to Rome, he played with jazz legends like Johnny Griffin and Sonny Rollins. Tommaso founded the jazz-rock group 'Perigeo' and later worked with Enrico Rava. He has composed over a hundred hours of film music and currently leads the Umbria Jazz Clinics, while actively teaching music.
