Gisela Midwer, better known by her Buddhist name Gesshin Myoko Prabhasa Dharma Roshi, was a German Rinzai Zen master born on March 30, 1931, in Frankfurt am Main. She moved to California in the 1950s and became a Zen student of Kyozan Joshu Sasaki Roshi in 1967. Ordained a Buddhist nun in 1968 and confirmed as Oshō in 1972, she later received the name Gesshin Myoko. In April 1985, she was authorized as the 45th monarch of the Vinitarucci lineage by Thich Minh Giac and adopted the name Prabhasa Dharma.
