Gitta Sereny (March 13, 1921 – June 14, 2012) was an Austrian-British biographer and investigative journalist known for her interviews and portraits of notorious individuals, including Mary Bell, convicted of murdering two children as a child, and Franz Stangl, commander of the Treblinka extermination camp. Born and raised in Austria, she authored five books, including 'The Case of Mary Bell: A Portrait of a Child Killer' (1972) and 'Albert Speer: His Battle with Truth' (1995). Sereny received the Duff Cooper Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Award in 1995 and was appointed CBE in 2004.
