Giwi Gabliani was a Georgian military figure, physician, and memoirist born on December 19, 1915. He studied medicine in Tbilisi and Munich and fought in World War II with the Georgian legion of the Wehrmacht, eventually becoming an Oberleutnant. Gabliani saved several Soviet Georgian soldiers during the war. After the war, he emigrated to the USA, where he practiced medicine until 1987. His extensive memoirs on WWII were published in 1998. He was married to Rusudani and had three children who live and work in the USA.
