Gıyasettin Emre was a Turkish politician born in 1910 in Bitlis. He became the first independent member of the Turkish parliament (TBMM) in 1954. After serving as an independent for a period, he was elected as a member of the Democratic Party (DP) from Muş in 1957, holding office until 1960. Following the 1960 coup, he was imprisoned for nearly three and a half years. After his release in 1963, he faced political restrictions that prevented him from returning to active politics. He passed away on October 2, 2008.
