Gladwin Conrad Hermon Kotelawala was a Ceylonese businessman and politician born on April 18, 1914. He was the son of Sir Henry Kotelawala and initially educated at Royal College, Colombo, then Trinity College, Kandy. He fled to India and later Singapore, where he built a successful business. During WWII, he worked as a price control inspector and became involved with the Indian Independence League. He was elected to the Badulla Urban Council and later, as a UNP candidate, to the Parliament. Kotelawala was recognized for his social services with an MBE in 1952.
