Gladys Eileen Marley (née Pidgeon) was a prominent New Zealand swimmer born on March 21, 1906, in Dunedin. She was the only female swimmer representing New Zealand at the 1930 British Empire Games, finishing sixth in the 200 yards breaststroke final. A champion in 220 yards breaststroke from 1925 to 1931, she worked as a clerk from age 14. After her retirement from swimming, she married Ken Marley and had two children. Marley passed away on November 19, 2002, in Wellington, with her ashes interred in Kelvin Grove Cemetery, Palmerston North.
