Glenn Michael Souther, also known as Mikhail Yevgenyevich Orlov, was an American sailor who defected to the Soviet Union in 1986. After spying for the Soviet Union while in the U.S. Navy, he transmitted classified information before being investigated for espionage. He gave up his U.S. citizenship, settled in Moscow, and was promoted to a KGB major, receiving the Order of Friendship. Tragically, Souther committed suicide three years after his defection at the age of 32.
