Gloria Alencáster Ybarra (March 5, 1927 - August 9, 2018) was a Mexican researcher recognized as the first Mexican paleontologist. She was a significant figure in the advancement of Earth sciences, particularly Mexican paleontology, contributing to the understanding of fossil diversity in Mexico. A pioneer in the study of rudists, she founded the Museum of Paleontology in Mexico. Alencáster's major contribution was the discovery of a hippuritoida subspecies among other genera and species, and she published various articles in internationally recognized paleontology journals.
