Walter Godfrey Bowen was a prominent New Zealand sheep shearer and farmer known for developing the Bowen Technique, which enhanced fleece quality. He set a world record in 1953 by shearing 456 sheep in nine hours and promoted biannual sheep shearing in New Zealand. Bowen co-founded the Agrodome in Rotorua, a popular tourist destination. He received several honors, including being named a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1960 and inaugurally inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.
