Golnoush Khaleghi was a pioneering Persian-American musician and conductor, born in Tehran on January 6, 1941. She distinguished herself as the first Persian woman conductor, having studied at prestigious institutions such as the Persian National Music Conservatory and Mozarteum Salzburg. From 1975 to 1979, she conducted the National Iranian Radio & Television Choir. After relocating to the United States post-1979 Revolution, she established the Ruhollâh Khâleqi Orchestra to preserve Persian music. Khaleghi passed away on February 14, 2021, at the age of 80, and is survived by her husband and two sons.
