He served as the longest director of the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge. Robin made significant contributions to Antarctic research, including pioneering methods for measuring ice thickness and mapping the Antarctic ice sheet. He held various leadership roles in scientific organizations and received numerous awards for his work, including the Polar Medal and the Patron's Medal.
