Gori is a hippopotamus born at Bioparc Valencia on May 18, 2020. He is the son of Raff and Rigas, a pair of hippos from the old Zoo de Vivers. Rigas gave birth underwater during the night of May 18 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, which delayed public viewing of the calf for several months. Gori was named by the caretaker who found him in the morning, in memory of his father who died from Covid two days earlier, and as a tribute to all who perished during the confinement.
