Gösta Thames was a Swedish engineer and industrial designer, most notably known for developing the Ericofon for LM Ericsson. He started as an engineering student at Ericsson in 1938 and was tasked with leading the development of the Ericofon in 1949. Despite earlier designs by Ralph Lysell, Thames emphasized ergonomics, ensuring the phone was comfortable to hold and easy to use even in the dark. The Ericofon DBJ 500 was delivered to the Swedish Televerket in 1953 in time for its 100th anniversary and went into production three years later.
