Govind P. Agrawal, born on July 24, 1951, in Kashipur, is an Indian-American physicist known for his work in laser physics and nonlinear optics. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Lucknow in 1969, a Master's from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in 1971, and a PhD in physics in 1974. He has held positions at École polytechnique, the City University of New York, Quantel in France, and Bell Laboratories. He became a professor at the University of Rochester in 1992 and has authored several textbooks on optical communication and semiconductors.
