Grace Brewster Murray Hopper was an American mathematician, computer pioneer, scientist, and admiral in the U.S. Navy. She is recognized as one of the first individuals to understand the necessity of high-level programming languages. Hopper wrote the first compiler and her ideas significantly influenced the development of the COBOL programming language.
